The origins of the hotel (Translated from their website)
ZIN is born from the desire of the Brothers of Tilburg to a new destination to their monastery “Huize Steenwijk ‘in Vught suit their spiritual tradition. Mercy is the inspiration of their work for the needy of then and now. The brothers saw that had a current need in the relationship between work, meaning and spirituality. Their observation was that by overvaluing the business orientation at work is the soul in jeopardy. In 1996, the General Chapter decided to develop the monastery a place of reflection and encounter. ZIN, the monastery for meaning and work, was born in the bud.
Soon after there was a special meeting between the brothers and Leendert Bikker and Henk-Jan Hoefman of the then Office Bikker. Driven by social engagement together they founded the foundation “SOAK work ‘on. There followed several years of intensive preparation led by Henk-Jan Hoefman. In 1999 and 2000 the monastery was completely rebuilt to a design by the Architectural Marx & Steketee. For daring commissioning the brothers received Welstandsprijs of the Province of North Brabant. Appreciation was mainly to preserve the tradition of the former monastery and the integrated application of modern architecture. From late 2000 receives MEANING groups. On January 27, 2001 MEANING opened amid great interest its doors.
In the convent hotel environment is contemplative atmosphere. Supporting thereby is circadian cycles, in which it appears clearly that there is a time of working and a time is relaxed. We hope guests embrace the daily routine and find it a boon for body and mind.
To start the day vital, guests can 7:45 to 8:15 pm to participate in the morning meditation. Then there until 9:00 am breakfast. Lunch starts at 12.30 h and we close at 13.00 with a short story. Before dinner find from 5:30 p.m. to 18:00 pm a musical meditation place where all guests are cordially invited. At 18:00 starts dinner. Around 23:00 it is still in the monastery.
